It's quitting time

Peek a boo! Here's a photo booth picture taken with the mac just to give a general idea of a painting I finished today. I'll properly scan it tomorrow and list it then because tonight, I'm done. It's always tempting to keep going but I know I've lost my edge and it's time to try and relax and slow down before bed. If I keep painting now I could ruin a good momentum I've got going in this new series. Plus, these seven canvases in rotation will be waiting for me in the morning.

Also, please visit http://additionsstyle.blogspot.com where I was interviewed about my art. Thank you for the feature Valerie!

Have a great night everyone. :)

Hi Jessica! This work looks fascinating (like all of your work). Your words struck a cord with me. About calling it a night, and how it's tempting to keep going.

Lately I haven't liked any of the work I've done. Does this ever happen to you? I have a very simple painting (sometimes they are the hardest) that I want to finish for my living room. It's almost done and I am tempted to finish it, but I'm tired.

I gave myself permission to finish the painting tomorrow. Maybe I won't ruin it this way. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :)

Why am I telling you all this? Because I know you understand. Have a great night!

Hi Peggy. Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean! There are times when I feel like I'm just wasting paint, wasting time, not feeling like anything is working. That's usually when I'm picking up the brush after a little time away. It's like relearning how to do it EVERY TIME until I get to that zone, that feeling when it all clicks and that's when things take off. This is why I want to keep myself going with as few gaps in between painting as possible just to stay connected to that feeling. It's not always possible, but I'm trying.

As for your painting, definitely walk away when you feel like you aren't totally present. There's an itch to keep tweaking things until it works but sometimes when you're tired or frustrated you're just going to meddle with it. I hope that today you got a fresh new take on it and feel good about where it's going. I'd love to see it - please add a link to it if you have it online. Fingers crossed for you!

I'm glad you shared and hope you will some more. Hope you're having a fabulous day. :)
