Live Painting - You asked for it

So I made a set of five little videos today while I was painting. Instead of trying to reign it back and be serious (quite a challenge for me) the full on goof is loud and proud. Enjoy...

Love the videos! Talking and painting has always been tough for me. Lovely painting :)

Hey Jess! You did it!
Great beginning. From the start to near finish of a painting, you have shown how you approach one of your styles pretty successfully. I def. think you need to do this again and I bet you already have tons of ideas. This was a brilliant idea of ours! You can do this!
You had me laughing but you also had me interested in your process and your decisions. As you become more comfortable with the whole idea, I can see these videos really taking off. I want to try it myself. Christian thinks I will be too self-conscious but I think there are lots of ways to do this. The bottom line is that it brings the viewer closer to the reality of your painting. That is meaningful to watch. You also revealed something of what it is to be a painter- the humor, the random thoughts, the singing, the silence and the thinking out loud. I could really feel you LOOSENING UP with the whole concept.
Great beginning- thanks Jessica for taking the energy we create together and doing something with it. You are the best! Thanks for making me think and laugh all at the same time.
I love you! Thanks for the shout-out too!

Just wanted to add what Christian had to say about the video . . . having to teach others your process is going to help you become a better painter. Having to evaluate your own steps out loud for the benefit of others is going to help you evaluate and understand your own processes.
It's a win win situation!

Hi Erika - thank you!

Kendra - after our talk, I was sitting with the mac by my side painting today and decided to go for it. So I definitely have to thank you for taking something that was a "maybe who knows" idea into a "sure, why not?" idea. Part of the reason why I felt comfortable doing it was imagining talking to you, so if you can do the same, I'm sure it will help with any possible nerves. I think you're so passionate about art that your passion will over-rule any other possible feelings. I love you lady and thank Christian for his insights as well - too true! It's forcing me to put something that's always been non verbal into worlds, which is an education for me.

Um, putting them into "words". Interesting slip there! ;)

WOW! Thanks for that Jessica. This is a wish come true that I have had for so long.

Watching an artist you admire, painting 'in the flesh' is so inspiring.

Please come back soon with more of your generous time and creativity.

What brand of paint do you use? Specifically, what black do you use for all the lines?

In this set of paintings I used Basic brand paint.

Jessica, I've been making my way through the videos and I love them! I love seeing your work evolve, and your dry sense of humor is delightful.

I had to crack up when you said you didn't like late night animal shows. One time I saw a show where the tiger attached some men and they were screaming, "Oh no, the tiger's gone crazy."

How stupid, I thought. It didn't go crazy - it's a friggin' tiger. That's what tigers do. It was the men who had gone crazy approaching the tiger.

Sorry for the novel, I just love your work. Your new large piece is absolutely fascinating, was it a lot of fun? I've been wanting to do something very large. xxoo

Peggy - right? It drives me nuts! They're always rushing the animals along too and the handler is always some spazzy person who makes matters worse. I don't care if that person is the animal whisperer at the zoo, on set these people just spazz out and then there are all of these other distractions. I always feel so bad for the animals. No kidding - a tiger attacks, surprise surprise. I'm ready to go on a late night show dressed as a wild animal and attack! I kid, I kid... :)

And yes, the biggie painting in the background was a blast to paint. I'm ready to tear into a new oversized canvas soon.
